With an ignited interest in local history, the duo of Kathy Toivonen and Kim Manduca have again hit the road - the railroad- to put together a collection of photographs, stories, profiles, and facts about the history and culture of railways throughout Northwestern Ontario. From White River to Kenora, people shared their family stories and treasured photographs, or offered guidance and support to find remnants of the ghost towns, artifacts and sites or interest in their communities.
This book takes you on a journey of history that comes to life with artifacts and sites that you can visit and explore. Public parks, museums, ghost towns, ruins, and hidden treasures, long forgotten in the forest, are included throughout the book and are identified with a GPS (Global Positioning System) and/or directions to help you discover the history of the rails.
