Designated the official bird for Ontario in 1994, Loons are known for their haunting call, their otherworldly red eyes, and for being chick magnets (the babies will ride on their parents backs to be protected from snapping turtles or seagulls). Weird loon fact? Loons have heavy, SOLID bones. This helps them dive deep underwater to hunt for fish and stolen bicycles.
The Loon is the first in a series of Birds of Canada by artist Glenn Gobuyan. Glenn specializes in environmental graphics and exhibit design. Operating as PIXO design (pixodesign.ca), he’s worked on many visible projects in the National Capital Region such as the design of banners on Confederation Boulevard, the wayfinding signage on the Capital Pathways and the Greenbelt Trails, and the Fossil Gallery at the Canadian Museum of Nature. Glenn draws quiet pride in seeing his work contribute a positive spirit in public spaces. Aside from creative endeavours, Glenn enjoys bicycle touring and kayaking, from which he draws a lot of inspiration and a connection with nature.
